A Little About Lollapalooza
In 2005, Lollapalooza made historic Grant Park in downtown Chicago its home – a city and beautiful setting worthy of such a spectacle of music, art, interactivity and community. In turn, Chicago made Lollapalooza its Festival. So much so that Chicago’s Red Eye Magazine wrote “Lolla puts Illinois on the map,” while Time Out Chicago called Lollapalooza “a rock-music lover’s dream.”
The latest version of the Lollapalooza phenomenon has evolved and expanded into one of the premier destination festivals in the US, drawing artists and music fans of all stripes from across the globe. The 2008 edition of the Festival promises to up the ante. Tune-in the weekend of August 1-3 and add a little Lolla to your life!

Rogue Wave Rogue Wave debuted in 2003 with their self-released “Out of the Shadow”. This band has drawn comparisons to Death Cab for Cutie and is sure to put on a great show.
Yeasayer Yeasayer is an experimental band based in New York. The band uses pop-rock, folk, and Middle Eastern and African sounds to create their music. The album “All Hour Cymbals” was released in October 2007.
The Kills The Anglo-American post-punk indie rock duo, The Kills, just released the album Midnight Boom in March. The Kills, compared to the White Stripes, will be a great show to see!
Gogol Bordello The eight member band, Gogol Bordello, has released four albums since 1999. The punk band from New York City is most known for their theatrical stage shows and includes dancers and accordion players in their sets.
Mates of State Mates of State are an American Indie rock duo formed in 1997. The duo consists of husband and wife, Jason Hammel and Kori Gardner. The couple has produced five albums and is a can’t miss at Lolla.
Bloc Party The English indie rock band Bloc Party formed at the 1999 Reading Festival, and have been a hit ever since. Their “dancey” rock and spiky guitar rock comes from influences such as “The Cure”, and the “Smashing Pumpkins”.
Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks Stephen Malkmus has just released his second album with the Jicks, which received 4.5 stars (out of 5) in Rolling Stone. The Jicks have opened for Radiohead and will bring great indie rock to Lollapalooza.
The Raconteurs Jack Whites side project, The Raconteurs, has turned into a great alternative rock group. The song “Steady as She Goes” led to the creation of the band, and with the new album “Consolers of the Lonely” out, they don’t look to be slowing down.
Bang Camaro Bang Camaro are a hard rock band formed in Boston, MA. The band uses 10-20 singers during their performance with only 6 instruments. The band has released two albums since 2005.
K'NAAN K’NAAN is a Canadian poet and hip hop artist from Somalia. His 2005 debut, The Dusty Foot Philosopher, won a Canadian Grammy for Rap Recording of the Year in 2006.
Black Lips Black Lips are a punk band from Atlanta Georgia and released Good Bad Not Evil in 2007. The band has a reputation for putting on crazy shows so look out for them at this years Lollapalooza.
Butch Walker Butch Walker served as front man for the Brit-pop-aping ensemble Marvelous 3 in the '90s before going solo. He is also a producer and has worked with Avril Lavigne, The Academy Is, and Pete Yorn.
Margot & the Nuclear So and So's Margot & the Nuclear So So’s sound, which is categorized as chamber pop, have been compared to Arcade Fire and the Decembrists. The band will release their album “Animal!” this year
The Ting Tings The Ting Tings are an English indie pop band with only two members. Their debut album, “We Started Nothing”, was released June 3rd. This bands tunes are sure to make you want to dance!
Dr. Dog Dr. Dog is a rock band from Pennsylvania, PA. Their sound of music has been compared to bands such as The Beatles and The Beach Boys. What more needs to be said for you to see this band perform?
The Gutter Twins The Gutter Twins is a duo formed between rock musicians Greg Dulli and Mark Lanegan. Their debut album, “Saturnalia” was released in 2008. Make sure you check this band out!
The Go! Team The Go! Team are an English-based six piece band (with two drummers) whose songs are a mixture of action theme songs, cheerleader chants, guitars and early hip hop. A can’t miss act!
Duffy Hailing from the same part of Wales as space-rockers the Super Furry Animals, Duffy's unique singing skills have caught the eye of many Britain fans. Her debut album “Rockferry” was released in March 2008.
Jamie Lidell Jamie Lidell is a musician and soul singer from England. His second album, “Multiply”, caught fire in 2005. His song “Multiply” was used in the hit TV show Grey’s Anatomy. A must see act at Lolla!
DeVotchka Devotchka is most known for their creation of the Grammy nominated soundtrack for Little Miss Sunshine. The band composed and performed most of the music for the film. Check them out at Lolla 2008!
Toadies Toadies are an alternative rock band from Texas. Their debut album, “Rubberneck”, gave the band their fame. After their breakup in 2001, fans were devastated. Now they are back and ready to rock Lolla!
Explosions in the Sky Explosions in the Sky are an instrumental band from Austin, TX. The band has released four albums and created the film soundtrack for the film Friday Night Lights which appeared in theaters in 2004.
Broken Social Scene Broken Social Scene is a Canadian indie rock group with 19 members in the band. Their music is pop with all kinds of instruments used. They have released 3 albums since 2001.
Wilco Chicago’s own Wilco is possibly America’s greatest rock n’ roll band. The band was formed in 1994 and has released seven great albums since then. Wilco is sure to show Chicago a great show.
De Novo Dahl De Novo Dahl is an indie rock group. The band has been compared to the Flaming Lips and has released three albums, winning fans over with its cunning mix of glam influences and playful theme shows.
Does It Offend You, Yeah? DIOFY mixes electronica with punk rock to put on a show that will make you dance. This British foursome will for sure rock the house. The band has been compared to Daft Punk and Muse. Just to name a few.
Okkervil River Okkervil River is an indie rock band from Austin, TX. Their album “The Stage Names” was declared one of the year’s essential albums in 2007 by PopMatters.
Kid Sister Kid Sister is a rap artist from Chicago. She is best known for her song “Pro Nails” which features Kanye West. She was nominated for Best Female Hip Hop Artist at the BET Awards.
The Whigs The Whigs are from Athens, GA and have been hailed by Rolling Stones as the best unsigned band in America. Now signed with Dave Matthews label, The Whigs might be a show you shouldn’t miss.
Office Office is a Chicago based pop band that was formed in 2000. The band has released five albums. The band describes themselves on their MySpace page as sounding like "K-Fed's head in a bed of lead.
Chromeo Chromeo formed in Montreal in 2003 and use keyboards, synthesizers and a talk box to create great music. The duo has released two albums and is sure to rock Chicago’s Lollapalooza!
G Love & Special Sauce G. Love & Special Sauce is an alternative hip hop band from Philadelphia. The band is most known for their laid back blues sound. Their most recent album, “Superhero Brother” is out in 2008.
